The foundation

Maimonides stated, in his monumental Mishneh Torah that, “The foundation of all foundations, and the pillar of all wisdom is to know that there is God… All the beings of the heavens, and the earth… came into existence only from the truth of God’s being.” This is a fundamental belief of Judaism, and in fact is the basis of all Kabbalist thought about God as the source and fundamental basis of all of creation and existence. Indeed, the Kabbalah is a universal philosophy and system of beliefs, as taught by the Kabbalah Centre and Rav Berg.

Joy and Light

Here it is – my first incidental encounter with someone over Kabbalah!

I met this person, Joy, when I was shopping for an English version of the Zohar. You see, the Zohar is the primary Kabbalah work that dates back to earlier than the year 200 C.E.

Written by Rabi Shimon bar Yochai, it is written in Aramaic – a semitic language like Hebrew. The Zohar forms the basis for all the works of Kabbalah. The Kabbalah Centers, founded by Rav Berg, teach English classes in Kabbalah, which makes it easier to understand and follow.

So, shopping for the Zohar in English had me meet this person who has been study Kabbalah at the Kabbalah Center. She has helped me understand s few things. Joy is her name, and she is a student of the Kabbalah teacher Karen Berg.

Power of 72

Rav Berg and his wife Karen are among a number of Kabbalah teachers who have managed to the Kabbalah to the public. Rav Berg and other Kabbalah teachers (in the Kabbalah Centre and elsewhere) explain that the 72 names of God have tremendous powers. These names appear in the Kabbalah among other sources. Reading or scanning them with your eyes can have great effects, is what they say. The Kabbalah Centre uses these 72 names in many of their activities, and they are also often quoted in lectures.
